Concrete slab thickness and volume guide
Thickness changes volume directly, but the correct slab design depends on loads, soil and local requirements.

Calculate concrete volume
Convert thickness from inches to feet, then multiply length × width × thickness. Divide cubic feet by 27 to obtain cubic yards. For example, a 10-by-12-foot slab at four inches is approximately 40 cubic feet, or 1.48 cubic yards, before ordering allowance.
Why thickness cannot be chosen from price alone
A walkway, patio, shed base and vehicle slab have different load and exposure conditions. Subgrade, drainage, frost, reinforcement and edge details can matter as much as nominal thickness. Confirm structural and code requirements locally before ordering.

- Delivery minimums, short-load charges or pumping
- Placement, finishing, curing and sealing
Ordering allowance
Uneven excavation, form movement and spillage can make theoretical volume insufficient. QUIKRETE notes that product yields are approximate and do not account for uneven thickness or waste. Use the supplier calculation and never reduce an engineered quantity simply to match a budget.
