What this estimate includes

The calculator separates common material, professional labor, disposal, permit allowance and contingency costs. It also accounts for the project conditions selected above. Sales tax, engineering, hidden damage and unusual access may require additional allowances.

How to use your result

  1. Confirm measurements at the project site.
  2. Compare at least two material choices.
  3. Print the report and request three local written quotes.
  4. Ask each contractor to identify exclusions, permit responsibility and cleanup.

Frequently asked questions

How much flooring waste should I add?

Simple rectangular rooms often need a smaller allowance than diagonal layouts, patterned tile or narrow connected spaces. Manufacturer packaging and minimum carton quantities can also push the actual order above calculated square footage.

What does floor removal cost?

Removal depends on the existing material, adhesive, fasteners, disposal weight and access. Glued flooring and mortar-bed tile usually require more labor than floating planks or carpet.

Which flooring is easiest to install?

Click-lock floating products are often approachable for careful DIY installation, but flatness, moisture, transitions and manufacturer instructions still control the result.

Floor preparation changes the result

The same flooring can have different installed prices depending on demolition, moisture, flatness and transitions. Tile and hardwood usually demand more substrate preparation than floating vinyl or laminate.

Worked example

A 500-square-foot installation with 10% waste requires about 550 square feet of ordered flooring. Diagonal layouts, narrow rooms and patterned tile may need a larger waste percentage.
