What this estimate includes

The calculator separates common material, professional labor, disposal, permit allowance and contingency costs. It also accounts for the project conditions selected above. Sales tax, engineering, hidden damage and unusual access may require additional allowances.

How to use your result

  1. Confirm measurements at the project site.
  2. Compare at least two material choices.
  3. Print the report and request three local written quotes.
  4. Ask each contractor to identify exclusions, permit responsibility and cleanup.

Frequently asked questions

What makes tree removal expensive?

Hazards near roofs, utilities and roads, limited drop zones, decay, rigging, crane use and emergency timing can outweigh height alone. An onsite arborist assessment is essential for hazardous trees.

Is stump grinding included?

Not automatically. Quotes should state grinding depth, root treatment, chip removal and whether clean soil and seed are included.

When is a crane required?

A crane may be chosen when sections cannot be lowered safely through the available drop zone or when access and tree condition make conventional rigging inefficient. The contractor must make that decision onsite.

Risk determines tree-removal cost

Height and trunk diameter matter, but rigging space, decay, utility lines, traffic control and crane access can dominate the price. Emergency work carries additional mobilization and safety costs.

Worked example

A healthy 40-foot tree in an open yard may be felled in sections with ordinary equipment. The same tree above a roof or power line requires controlled rigging and cannot use the open-yard price.

Safety questions

  • Is the contractor properly insured for tree work?
  • Who coordinates utility clearance?
  • Are stump grinding and debris haul-away included?
